What is a Glass Reactor?
The glass reactor refers to a kind of glass vessel widely used in the chemical, fine chemical, bio-pharmaceutical and new material synthesis fields. It is suitable for a great variety of process operations, such as vacuum stirring, chemical reactions, distillation, reflux, concentration, crystallization, negative pressure operation and liquid separation. It’s convenient and simple to operate for both separation and synthesis.
Single-Layer Glass Reactor VS. Double-Layer Glass Reactor
Specifically speaking, the glass reactors can be further divided into single-layer glass reactors and double-layer glass reactors.
A single-layer glass reactor can complete vacuum, high and low temperature reactions at the same time, which is easy to operate and clear to see the reaction process. It is regarded as an ideal equipment for modern synthetic chemical industry, biological pharmaceutical and new material preparation.
A double-layer glass reactor adopts double-layer glass design. The reaction solvent is put in the internal layer to do the stirring reaction, and different cold and heat sources (refrigerating fluid, hot water or oil) can be connected to the interlayer to do circulating heating or cooling reaction. Under the condition of the given constant temperature, the stirring reaction can be done under normal or negative pressure in a closed glass reactor, as well as the backflow and distillation of the reaction solution. It is an ideal pilot-plant and production equipment for modern fine chemical industry, bio-pharmaceutical and new material synthesis.
Glass Reactor VS. Stainless Steel Reactor VS. Enamel Reactor
In terms of various materials, there are glass reactors, stainless steel reactors and enamel reactors. So what are differences among them?
1. Glass Reactor VS. Stainless Steel Reactor
Glass reactors generally possess a good acid and alkali resistance, corrosion resistance, and good chemical stability, but the heat conduction is relatively poor. On the contrary, stainless steel reactors has an excellent heat conduction ability, but they aren’t resistant to strong acid and alkali materials.
2. Glass Reactor VS. Enamel Reactor
Both glass reactors and enamel reactors are anti-corrosion reactors, which are resistant to acid and alkali. Actually, the glass-lined reactor among enamel reactors is a type of glass reactors as well, made by presintering a layer of glass inside the metal. But the glass-lined reactors can’t be used for alkaline materials due to the glass can be dissolved by alkali, leading to corrosion of equipment.
3. Stainless Steel Reactor VS. Enamel Reactor
Compared to enamel reactors, stainless steel reactors can be heated rapidly, which is high temperature resistant and more sanitary.
